Unusual sofa by Lila Jang was a part of Artistes Parcours Saint Germain 2008 in Paris, where the creations of young artists were exhibited for 3 weeks in Saint-Germain-des-Prés luxury stores. The sofa by Lila Jang was exhibited at the baby clothing store Bonpoint belonging to the famous French childrenswear couture house.

Designed by James Douglas: “I created a piece of seating expressing the gravity defying physical forms of the so called mushroom rocks. Mushroom rocks are described as stone structures which have be eroded at a quicker pace lower down the form rather than at the top. Stitch Stool and Chair

Designed by Adam Goodrum. Folding chair and stool completely manufactured with aluminium plate, available polish lacquered in white, blue, yellow, grey, red and black colours or in a multi-coloured version in a fixed combination of the same colours. Feet in white polypropylene. The hinges allow to have a seat that can reduce to minimum its dimensions when folded up.

Designed by Alessandro Mendini. Armchair with hand-carved and hand-painted wooden frame, upholstered with fixed multicolor fabric matching the colours of the structure. This armchair is the re-edition of one of the historic pieces of contemporary italian design.

Proust Geometrica

Designed by Alessandro Mendini. Armchair with wooden frame, upholstered with a new multi-colour fabric designed by Alessandro Mendini. Created in 1978 for the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara, Proust was immediately recognized as an icon of twentieth century design and one of the most renowned and essential reference points in the quest for form and aesthetic perfection. Cappellini inherited the piece in 1993 and today Proust Geometrica, upholstered and hand-finished according to tradition, preserves the forms of the original armchair while refreshing them and breathing new life into the image and value of the original design.

Desiged by Dror. Armchair realized with a single crumpled sheet of felt, one-colour (green or blue) or double-colour (green and blue coupled with grey colour). Base in metal, powder varnished in dark brown colour. Double-colour felt can be used leaving on front side both the coloured surface and the grey one.

Designed by Nendo. Low armchair, assembled massive ash olive tree-stained backrest, soft seat in moulded polyurethane upholstered in Feltro fabric (grey, green, light brown and dark brown) or leather and extra leather. Covers in light colours have contrasting seams in brown colour, covers in dark colours have contrasting seams in sand colour. A cushion in acrylic fiber covered in Tibetan lamb fur is also available.

The intent of this project was to create a “take-away” that the student would hold on to, and would double as a functioning calendar as well as decoration or entertainment. The cube unfolds endlessly, making it an irresistible toy to fidget with while studying.

Ink Calendar by Oscar Diaz

After the designer: Ink Calendar” make use the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time.
The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are “printed” daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. A calendar self-updated, which enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it. The ink colors are based on a spectrum, which relate to a “color temperature scale”, each month having a color related to our perception of the whether on that month. The colors range from dark blue in December to, three shades of green in spring or oranges, red in the summer.

This post presents 19 creative calendars by designers from all over the world. The ideas underlying their designs are various. Some focus on the calendar practicality, some make us reflect on the ephemerality of time. Almost all constitute something more than just a calendar.

THE PROJECT CONCEPT

“In the contemporary world with its abundance of visual experience, with the pictorial language of communication reigning supreme, with the almost unconstrained and instant accessibility of iconographic material, an exposition piece of architecture will only be attractive insofar it can offer perceptual sensations attainable only through direct, unmediated exposure to out-of-the-ordinary, singular stimuli, insofar it can provide a quality of experience born out of the chemistry of inter-sensory stimulation. Given the nature of the exposition, the exhibition facility has to denote, by its esthetic distinctiveness, the country of origin, has to constitute, by the strength of its stylistic connotations, an evocative, recognizable and memorable cultural ideogram. In our design, the cultural idiom is primarily conveyed through the theme, the motif of folk-art paper cut-out. Or, more precisely, through a rendering of the motif, a transcription of an elementary esthetic code into the contemporary language of architectural décor. The transcription rationale was twofold. First of all, we did not wish the design to be literally folklorish, a mechanical multiplication of convention-approved set patterns. The intention was for the structure décor to draw on and make reference to tradition, but ultimately to be that tradition’s contemporary reinterpretation, a creative extension into the present day by way of inspiration rather than replication. Secondly, we aspired to make the structure in its own right, in a purely architectural dimension, a significant landmark, a showcase of Polish design achievements. That it should be an attractive, eye-catching exterior both in daylight, against the panorama of other Expo facilities, as well as a mesmerizing experience at night with the edifice drawn by the multi-colored light seeping through the cut-out patterns. And reversely, that it should provide inside visitors with comparable experience by shaping the outer skin patterning in such a way that the sun rays shining through would chisel, by light and shade, the space under the vault. The structure’s overall shape, with many slanting planes, on the one hand complements and rounds out, by the suggestion of a folded sheet of paper, the ‘cut-out’ narrative, on the other creates inside a geometrically intriguing and flexible space that can be creatively apportioned, by inner divisions, to different exhibition, performance and utility functions and uses.”
